The photo backdrop at the bottom of the page is Denys Lasdun’s brutalist stronghold on the South Bank, the Royal National Theatre. It opened in the year of my birth, 1976. I’ve been a member of their patrons programme for a number of years.

The National is simply the best theatre in London, bar none. It nurtured a multi-year collaboration between then Artistic Director Sir Nick Hytner and Lord Alan Bennett of Craven, Baronet, Yorkshire hero and legend.

Ashcroft Room and Terrace

Coming this year, Bryan Cranston in Network, the play of the seminal 1976 movie. Already on is a new version of Hedda Gabler starring Ruth Wilson. There is something for everyone, traditional and modern. Rufus Norris has really found his feet for the spring 2017 season and has some (almost) incredible plans for the next year. My next outing is in February to see Kate Fleetwood and Ralf Little in Ugly Lies The Bone.

Please do visit when you can. Tickets start at just £15.
